Partial vs. Full Removal — What's Right For You
Partial removal: top 2–3 feet of pool walls broken in, drain holes punched in the bottom, debris compacted, clean fill brought in. Faster and cheaper, but the lot must be disclosed as having a buried pool.
Full removal: every piece of concrete, gunite, fiberglass, or steel hauled off-site. More expensive, but the lot is fully buildable and no disclosure is needed. We'll tell you straight which fits your situation.
Backfill, Compaction, and Grading
Bad backfill is the #1 reason pool removals fail — settling, sinkholes, dead grass that won't grow back. We use clean structural fill, compact in lifts, and finish-grade so the area drains away from the house and is ready for sod or seed.
Above-Ground and Spa Removal
Above-ground pools and spas are typically a same-day job: drain, dismantle, haul. Surrounding decking, fencing, and pumphouses can come out in the same trip if you want a clean slate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to remove a pool in Chicago?
Yes for in-ground. We pull it. Above-ground removal generally does not require a permit.
How long does it take?
Above-ground: 1 day. In-ground partial removal: 2–3 days. Full removal with haul-off: 3–5 days depending on access and pool size.
Will my yard be ready to plant grass?
Yes — we leave it rough-graded with topsoil-ready fill. Sod or seed install can be added to the quote if you want a turn-key finish.
